Gentle Chair Yoga Basics
This is a virtual event: an access link will be emailed to registrants on the day of the program. This program is sponsored by the Neighborhood Library Association and you'll register through
Commerce Township Community Library's events page. Registration and email address is required because a Zoom link will be sent to registrants the day of the program.

A regular yoga practice can offer a wide variety of both mental and physical benefits, including reduced anxiety and depression, as well as increased strength and range of motion. If you've been wanting to start (or perhaps restart) a home yoga practice during this challenging time but feel overwhelmed by options or unsure where to start, this supported class can serve as an entry point. Even if you already feel comfortable in your home practice, you may find new ways to utilize a chair to enhance sensation in familiar poses, or assemble a toolbox of movements and stretches that can serve you throughout your work (from home) day.

Chair yoga is accessible, gentle and for every BODY. In this class, we will practice mindful breathing techniques and use the support of a chair* to move into both seated and standing yoga poses. These shapes will access the benefits of a traditional yoga class (such as strength building and improved flexibility) in a low-impact way that reduces strain on major joints. The emphasis will be on promoting strength and stability through slow, intentional movement and held postures. A variety of modifications will be offered to ensure that all students feel both challenged and supported.

*Most any dining or folding chair without arms will work well for this class.

Rebecca Storzbach first arrived on her mat nearly 15 years ago and eventually transitioned from classroom teacher to registered yoga teacher. She leads groups of all ages, from preschoolers to seniors, and is passionate about spreading the joy of regular yoga practice.
